What we have spent the raised money on over the past few years:
Each year some purchases are always provided for the pupils. These include:
· A small Easter Egg is bought for each pupil
· Each leaver is presented with a bible in the final church service
· Two disco’s are held, with free entry to each child from the school
· £2000 is contributed to a themed week chosen by the school – these have included Health week and Diversity week to give just 2 examples
We then try to aim for large projects, which benefit the school for years to come, and are applicable to all ages. Some of these in recent years have included:
2006-2007: A trim trail in the main playground.
2007-2008: New stage lighting system in the hall. A covered shelter was built outside the reception and nursery classrooms. We contributed towards the construction of a greenhouse. We contributed towards a smaller trim trail, which is situated outside nursery and reception. Purchased a quantity of hi-vis vests and poncho’s for the walking bus and the classes to use that walk to swimming.
2008 - 2009: We have purchased and installed a new speaker system in the main hall to compliment the lighting system installed the previous year.
We are liasing with the school council to see what they would like us to offer, although this is unlikely to take place until after the current building work has been completed.
Some of the events that have taken place in the last few years that have helped to raise the money:
The Pamper Evening took place on 21st February 2008. This proved very popular again with many women having manicures, hot stones, Indian head massages as well as much more. This raised £178.26
Sponsor Day was held on 22nd May 2008. A big thank you to the volunteers who helped man the bouncy castles that the P.T.F.A provided as a “thank you” to the children for participating in the sponsored events. The total raised was just under £2500, which was amazing. Well done to everyone.
Summer Fair took place on Friday 27th June 2008 and is another big fundraising event. We managed to raise over £2100. Despite the bad weather, that meant it had to be held indoors for the second year running, it was a very busy and successful event. Thank you again to all those volunteers who gave their time in any way to make it another great event.
Bag 2 School took place on 2 separate dates, when children and parent’s brought in bags filled with old clothes, soft toys or furnishings that were then collected by the company. Our filled bags are weighed and we are given £200 per tonne. We raised £549.
Toy Fair – Friday 17th October 2008 - The Toy fair was held during school time and gave every pupil a chance to purchase toys and games. Children brought in a small amount of money on the Friday to buy their toys/games. We managed to raise a very impressive £302.
Design a Christmas card – November/December 2008 – The children designed their own Christmas Cards using their creative skills and imagination in school before October half term. Their unique designs were then printed onto cards, a sample of which was sent home for the family to see. They were then available in packs of 10 for the family to purchase and help raise money for the P.T.F.A. The children seemed to get great pleasure from seeing their artwork professionally printed as high quality Christmas Cards. Please feel free to have a look at the website www.my-school-christmas-cards.co.uk for more information.
Thank you to everyone who purchased Christmas cards and other products from “My School Christmas Cards”. It was the first year we have participated in this fundraising event and we are very pleased to announce that £235 has been raised for the P.T.F.A. Thank you very much for your support.
Christmas Fair – Friday 28th November 2008 - It is one of our major fundraisers of the year. It proved to be as popular as ever, with Santa getting lots of visitors during the evening. We hope everyone enjoyed the event. We raised a tremendous £2600. We were very lucky to receive money from Barclays, which matched the tombola pound for pound. Thank you for making it such a success. A big thank you also to all the volunteers who helped ensure the fair ran smoothly and successfully.
Quiz Night – Friday 27th February 2009 – It was the first time we had held this and it was a sell out. It was a General knowledge and Music Quiz for teams of up to 6 adults. Even as we were clearing away we were being asked when the next one would be! It raised £285.
Sponsor Day – Thursday May 21st 2009 A big thank you to the volunteers who helped supervise the bouncy castles that the P.T.F.A provided as a “thank you” to the children for participating in the sponsored events. The total raised was just over £2064. Well done to everyone.
Summer Fair – Friday 26th June 2009 This is an event that just simply could not take place without our volunteers. The help is much appreciated. Unfortunately, it again had to be held inside and on the day we raised just over £1908 with an additional amount from Barclays £ for £ of £524.90.
Toy Fair - Thursday 22nd October 2009 - Again very well supported by children and parents. This time it raised £321.75.
Clothing Collection – Wednesday 11th November 2009 - This raised just under £330.
Christmas Fair – Friday 27th November 2009 - Another well supported fair. On the night this took £2521.04. Barclays again supported £ for on the tombola stalls and so we will earn an extra £536.61. Thnakyou to everyone who supported us.
Fashion Night – Friday 4th December 2009 - a new event which we decided to try. It raised a very pleasing £528.00. We hope those of you who attaneded enjoyed the night.
Family Photo Night with Curtis Jenson - Monday 22nd February - we are awaiting notification of the commission that we will receive for hosting this night
Clothing Collection - 23rd February 2010 - this time it raised £224.40
Quiz Night - Friday 19th March - Funds raised will be posted soon
Thornton's Easter Eggs - Easter 2010- We are awaiting details of the funds that this has raised
Future and ongoing fundraising events
St. Michael’s Bears - We are now selling some very cute St. Michael’s Bears. The bears cost £10 each and they can be viewed and ordered at the school office. We will be selling them for the foreseeable future so should you wish to order one, please speak to Mrs. Phillips in the school office. All proceeds go to the P.T.F.A. Thank you for your support.
The total raised so far for the P.T.F.A is £122.88 (September 2009) and counting.
Avon - If you are interested in receiving an Avon book through the school, please contact the front office. We are offered 10% commission on all orders, which is kindly donated by the representative.
SUMMER FAIR - Saturday 10th July - We have this year decided to try the Summer fair on a Saturday and have opted for a little later in the summer than usual. We realise that trying something new means that we are even more dependant on volunteers. In order for us to start developing what needs to be done and schedules required, we would appreciate if you would be able to let us know if you are able to help on the run up to the fair (the 2 weeks before) during school hours, on the day (from 9am) to set up, to manage a stall and/or to tidy up.
